Updates on Project Baby Kyrie

I’m glad to announce that Project Baby Kyrie is completed and ready to ship!  ;)   Hope buddies Momma RS and Papa KA will be delighted to receive this:

I made some minor adjustments to the original pattern, which called for pearl buttons.  I couldn’t find the right-sized pearl buttons to match, so instead, I used the buttons for the cluster of flowers.  Oh, I added the flowers too, thought that it would make it look even more girly.  ;)   In place of the buttons, I made the ribbon-tie.  I thought it looked okay, doesn’t it?  *keeps fingers crossed*

Mom actually thought this was for MiMi hahahha!  ;)   I have been tasked to crochet her one soon, too…  :D

I am becoming a do-NUT!

Guess what came thru the doors of my humble abode yesterday?

img_3899a.jpg

Finally, I get to try J.Co donuts!  I’ve been hearing about this donut for quite a while now, but the one of the two times I was at the Pavillion, I couldn’t bring myself to stand in the very long line waiting to buy just… well, donuts.

That’s only because I’m not that big a donut person.  The only brand of donuts that I was addicted to was Krispy Kreme.  And that also, from one particular Washington outlet across the border from Canada.

And I really wasn’t willing to queue.  Why this time then?  Coz I got Dad to queue for me (TQ muchies Dad) haha!  Dad was attending a function at the Pavillion and I suddenly thought of J.Co.  Luckily, Dad was also curious the fuss around these donuts (obviously, I was raving about it the night before, without actually having tried it  :P ).  Curious enough (and he also liked Krispy Kremes) to stand in line to buy some ;)

Some you say???  Some = 2 dozen donuts.   I gave a half dozen to CL and another half dozen to YT.  On hindsight, I should have asked dad to buy 3 dozen.  I initially didn’t think that we could finish so many donuts.  Boy, was I wrong.

Presenting… the donuts…

img_3904a.jpg

Yummy yummy slurp slurp!  Dad actually ate 3!  I think it was 3, or was it 4?  haha!  Here are the names of the donuts (as found on their website, which did not have a complete list):

The one to the right of Cheese Me Up was a  Blueberry thing.  The one in between Miss Green Tea and Coco Loco tasted like Oreo… not sure about the on to the left of Miss Green Tea, but it looks like something with custard.  ;)

And more pictures of gooey donuts… ah… sweet!

So yeah, I think I’ve almost become a donut addict.  The instructions for reheating was to have it in the micro for 8 seconds, but I found that it was not even necessary.  It was still soft and fluffy this morning, slurps!

Random Stuff

My new stash of yarn!

img_3650a.jpg

Oh, I just discovered that the Cuba yarn is by Adriafil… hee.

And this arrived for me in the mail about two weeks ago (and I forgot all about it).

Flower motif cards by Hamanaka!  I can’t find them anywhere around here, so I got ‘em off Yoko Lab in Hong Kong.  Cost:  HK$27 each, postage was HK$25.  Haven’t the guts to try it out yet… soon… soon… with the mohair yarn I got yesterday!

I’ve also been roped in by TG for a charity fund-raising event for 4 November 2007.  It’s gonna be a bazaar-like thing, the volunteers (ala me) pay for whatever stuff they want to put up for sale, and all proceeds from this go to charity.  TG asked me to paint/craft a few items to be sold.  Her friend, will be manning a booth at the event and will craft greeting cards.  So, our booth is going to be craft booth I think.  I heard that there’s gonna be someone stringing crystal jewelry too!

These are the pieces I’m in charge of.  ;)   I still haven’t yet a clue on what to do with them but I would have to complete this little project by next weekend…

Lookie the wrong-fit shrug…

shrugcollage.jpg

The back of the shrug is still incomplete.  Demotivated from the wrong-fit issue.

Just a little more…

I thought I swore off yarn shopping.  Didn’t I?  I thought I did.  Hehe.  Couldn’t resist.  Went to my other LYS to buy more straw yarn for a WIP, but she didn’t have them in stock at the moment so I went searching for other yarn.  Saw MORE of my Marks & Kattens!  So happy!  Grabbed three more balls.  She has probably another two more but I am positive the extra three would be more than sufficient.  Oh, she has a pretty pink variegated too… only about eight balls of it :(   I can’t figure out the use for it so far, so I restrained myself from buying… good eh?  ;)

Then I saw Mohair.  I don’t exactly love to craft with Mohair, because the one that I had, looked nice but was prickly.  :(   That blue Mohair sweater never saw the light of day again.  It must be tucked somewhere in the closet in my brother’s room.  It didn’t exactly turn out the way I had wanted it to, too.  I wanted a cowl-necked sweater.  I got a turtleneck.  :(   LYS (the one that I hardly go to anymore) boo-boo-ed the calculations and by the time I realized, I was almost done and no longer in the mood to reknit.  However, this particular Mohair (brandless) is SUPER CHEAP.  Cheap, as in, RM9.90 per ball.  I paid around RM25 per ball, easily about 6 years ago, for the blue mohair Hamanaka.  Cheap Cheap!  I suddenly thought of the shawl I had wanted to experiment with and so bought one, yes you heard me right, ONE ball of the variegated burnt orange (I think it’s burnt orange) mohair to experiment with.  I wondered why was it only RM9.90 … I checked with LYS and she confirmed that it was, 100% mohair, and it felt smoother than the one I had used before.  Who knows?  Maybe it’s that cheap coz it’s Made in China.  I’m not complaining.  ;)

I went looking at other yarn (evil, evil eyes!) because I found that I have more babies to knit/crochet for.  Three, to be exact.  Project Isabella, Project Baby C and Project Baby X.  Project Isabella is for my cousin’s baby girl, due late next month.  I have thoughts about knitting a pair of baby booties from the ONline stash that I already have.  Project Baby C (coz Baby C’s mom hasn’t yet announce her name to the world) would be girly too… Haven’t yet decided what I would make Baby C, but I have a little more time on that one, because she is only due to see the world in January.  :)   So is Baby X (named so coz he hasn’t a name yet).  Mommy KM only confirmed that Baby X is a boy, due in January.  :)   I ended up buying two balls of blue Marks & Kattens (wished they had plain pink, I just love to work with this yarn), and two balls of Cuba yarn (RM20-ish each) in baby pink for Projects Baby X and Baby C.  Cuba yarn texture reminds me on ONline Java… *shudders* but it is slightly thicker so maybe the Tulip No.5 crochet hook will work ok with this.

Will post yarn stash pics tomorrow.  ;)   I somehow drained out the Ixus battery pack late last night so its on its way charging to full capacity now.

What’s with the green yarn?

I must say I’m progressing quite quickly with the variegated Marks & Kattens… and I’m frantically calculating my stash… I had to add quite a bit of motifs to the original pattern, and looking at it now (about 60% completed) I think I might just need all 7 balls. Sigh. Gotta call LYS to reserve that last one for me before someone grabs it (ok ok, I hear you laughing coz I left that one ball in the store, for reasons I don’t even know why). :P

Sneak peek:

img_3649a.jpg

Look at all the tails!!! :( So not looking forward to tucking ‘em all in. I used to tuck as I go, but neat as it looks, it doesn’t give me an option to remove and redo motifs if I need to. With that ivory thing (the unfinished, wrong-fit shrug), I tried to pick it all out but because I have tucked in the ends, I ended up having to cut and join yarn for each motif which was a hassle. I gave up and am now leaving it as wrong-fit coz it fits my mom fine. But I’m a little bit disappointed though, coz I really really really love the pattern.

So there, I will hold my horses and leave all tails intact until I am 100000% certain that the whole fit is good. heh heh! They say, “Once bitten, twice shy”. *winks*

A Dress Ruined!

This was what became of my beloved Dorothy Perkins purple dress after a wash in the washing machine:

img_3575a.jpg

What can I say? It’s all my own doing. I read the washing instructions, but did not read the symbols. :( It shouldn’t be a problem to have it fixed, the problem is to FIND someone who is willing to do the dirty job. :(   Seamstresses can be quite picky these days about the jobs that come along.  :(   I’m just all sad about it!  YT and CL both have the same dress but they were smart enough to handwash theirs…. *sobs*  Why ain’t I that smart?  Grrr!

New Yarn

Here is my new stash ‘o yarn…

img_3630a.jpgimg_3628a.jpg

img_3640a.jpgimg_3646a.jpg

Variegated green yarn is “Bianca” by Marks & Kattens.  LYS had only 7 balls left.  I took 6.  Don’t ask me why didn’t I take them all.  :P   Seems that they no longer produce this one.  There’s is a variegated maroon too.  That is SO pretty, but there is only 1 ball of it and I don’t really know what I can do with 1 ball.  Hardly enough for even a baby’s vest.  Well, it looks like I might just have to grab the last green ball for my current project.  I’m already on my 3rd ball, and current estimates (in my head) says that I might need 5 balls.  Cost per ball:  RM23.90.

Pink crochet yarn is by Adriafil (yeah, the one I used for the blue shrug).  I’m looking to crochet a shrug for MiMi (little Shih Tzu) to match me. hehe hehe.  Nuts, I know.  :P   I believe that half a ball would be enough for this, but I’m looking to crochet a mini scarf for myself.  Hee.  We’ll see.  ;)

Remember I had once mentioned about a horrible yarn by Adriafil?  Yup, that’s the yellow one.  I’m stocking up on it (because LYS no longer has it and Adriafil no longer produces it) to mend my yellow knitted piece (that I have yet to take pictures of).  I think there’s still a one and one half ball left laying somewhere in my room… with all my planned amendments, I might need about 3 balls.  I think.  I hope.  If I run out…. Oh, I don’t even want to think about it.

Why I don’t like this yarn, you ask?  It kicks up cotton dust when you knit.  Seriously.  I was warned by LYS that some customers had problems with it, but I thought I’d try it anyway coz it was cheap.  Not exactly cheap cheap, but cheaper than what they had (RM18.90 per ball).  I didn’t have problems with it initially, but halfway thru the first ball, the cotton dust thing came about, making my nose super itchy.  :(   I had to endure every moment knitting with it.  And right now, I can’t imagine taking my old project out and having to endure this… again…
